First aid courses for the workplace

Become a first aider and you'll make a real difference to the well-being of your colleagues.First aid in the work place

First aid provision in the workplace saves lives. It can prevent minor problems or injuries from becoming major ones. It can help employers reduce costs from injury. And it is a legal obligation on every single employer to make sure that their employees receive the right first aid care in the workplace.

From 1 October 2009 the requirements for first aid in the workplace have changed - how it will affect you?
First aiders

Depending on the hazards and number of employees in the workplace your first aiders will need to be trained in either Emergency first aid at work or First aid at work - our workplace training guide can help you understand your requirements.

  • Emergency first aid at work - one-day course for smaller low-risk workplaces
  • First aid at work - three-day course for initial qualification
  • First aid at work (requalification) - two-day course to requalify existing first aiders

First aid cover in the workplace is a legal requirement. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) introduced a new set of regulations which came into force on 1 October 2009.
Your legal requirement

What hasn't changed is the legal requirement to provide adequate first aid cover. Our online tools can help you check if you have gaps in your cover.

  • Our workplace training guide will check the number of first aiders you need against current legislation and it also provides resources for checking related health and safety issues like the number of fire marshals you require
  • All but the smallest of workplaces should carry out a first aid needs review to identify risks which may affect the number of first aiders you require or additional precautions or training that may be needed
